Our Story

Regenerative + Sustainable Farming

Our family has a multi-generational history of growing fantastic food without chemical fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides. Each generation learns new tricks and passes those on to the next generation along with all the information gleaned from years of experience. Our holistic management philosophy means that every part of the farm fits like a puzzle piece with all the rest of the parts, each one enhancing the others.

Using regenerative practices is not new to us. On the crop land, we build soil with grasses, legumes, and composted animal manure. The soil is also enriched by the pigs who serve as tillers and clean up crew. In the pastures, which are covered with permanent grasses and legumes, the cattle eat the grass, turning it into milk and meat, while depositing nutrient-rich body waste. These practices sequester large volumes of carbon, hold soil in place to prevent erosion, and capture rain and snow so it has a chance to soak deeply into the soil to refill the aquifers deep underground.

Sustainability is also paramount. The farm needs to generate enough income to support every family member and staff member who works here. So we constantly review our pricing and expenses, looking for ways to push into new markets that will maximize our income without pushing the farm into over-production. We never want to put the frail ecological balance we are building at risk. Our intentional plan of leaving plenty of habitat for birds, pollinators, wild flowers, snakes, toads and other wildlife is working, we are seeing the return of many species in the past two decades.
